In this post I invite you to discover the top five things to do in Cozumel.
Cozumel has an incredible sea and that is why its main activities are carried out in the ocean. Even for those non-aquatic accustomed beings, Cozumel has something to offer them.
1. Cozumel Diving.
Scuba diving is definitely and by far the main activity in Cozumel. The island offers hundreds of operators, boats and dozens of diving points.
Many people think that scuba diving is complicated and that requires a lot of training or skills. It is actually quite the opposite, as a non-certified person may be diving with an instructor in less than two hours with the PADI program” Discover Scuba diving”.
For certified people, most operators offer diving trips (making two dives per trip) at different schedules, being the common: 8 am, 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 5:30 pm and 7 pm.
Except for the last trip mentioned (7 pm) most trips will last between 4 and 5 hours. The boats usually bring water, bread and fruit for the interval time between dives.
If you are interested in coming to dive in Cozumel, email me, we have enough contacts and depending on your needs we can recommend a specific operator, whether you are a beginner, advanced diver, non-certified, or interested in some private service.
We remind you that KonocerMX has no sponsors. The recommendations we make are based on local research, trying not to give preference to any specific operators.
2. Cozumel Snorkeling Tours.
Some reefs on the island of Cozumel have very little depth but with an incredible visibility, that is why another important activity in Cozumel is the snorkeling.
For this type of service the operators have much more flexible schedules, with the ferry pier being a main point to hire this type of tour. The operators usually offer sodas, beers and some snacks for their travels. We recommend that when hiring those services you ask them what they include and which reefs you will visit.
3. Cozumel Cielo Cruise Excursion.
This is something you definitely have to do on your visit to Cozumel, “El Cielo” is a beautiful beach that is located close to the Laguna Colombia which can be accessed only by boat. It has an average depth of one to two meters and an incredible turquoise color.
This tour is often referred to as the ”Cielo Party Boat”. Operators usually offer a variety of alcoholic beverages, refreshments and food. The ceviche can not be missed, along with guacamole and some other light snacks.
This trip lasts between 4 and 5 hours including the stop at one or two reefs for snorkeling, typically the Colombia Shallows reef. For this tour I recommend to investigate well with whom you will hire the service, as some operators take the party to extreme points and if you are traveling with family it could become a little uncomfortable.
Otherwise most keep a family friendly atmosphere; healthy, enjoyable and fun.
So what are you looking for? A crazy party on the beach or a fun afternoon with family.
Cielo Cruise is the best Cozumel Excursion.
4. Cozumel Island Tours.
Cozumel has all sorts of roads to explore around the island which you can enjoy in an off-road vehicle, ATV and even on horse. Some of these tours guide you around the island by the main beaches, restaurants and natural parks. Another good option are the ranches that offer horseback tours or the tequila tours which show you the process that follows the tequila making, from the agave to your table. In Cozumel you can even find all-inclusive packages to the great aquatic parks of the Mayan Riviera or the famous Tulum ruins.
As you see, Cozumel always has something to offer you.
5. Cozumel Beach.
Cozumel is an island so you have plenty of beaches to visit, what you lack is sand.
It is difficult to find sandy beaches near the populated area of Cozumel and most of the beaches on the west side of the island are part of private clubs requiring minimal consumption at it’s restaurant to use the facilities. However these beaches are beautiful, with the turquoise blue of the Caribbean Sea. The beach clubs offer swimming pools, restaurants, bathrooms and inflatable toys in the sea.
If you have the time, I recommend beach clubs like Turquoise, Sky Reef or Paradise Beach. These places have incredible facilities and offer a very good service, with Turquoise being the closest to both docks. Another great way to explore the eastern part of the island is by renting a car. On the east side you will find most of the beaches “free” with soft white sand.
I hope you are able to take advantage of these five things to do in Cozumel and that this information will be useful for your Cozumel adventure. If you were able to try one of these tours, please feel free to comment on your experience. Remember that the goal is to find the good places and avoid the bad experiences
